WHY BEND?
Come to Bend
Bend is the sixth fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States. It has become a destination spot because of the majestic snow covered Cascade Mountain range, the rock climbing, the rivers, the hiking and mountain biking trails, pine trees and long summer days. (it doesn’t get dark till after 10:00!)
In addition to the natural beauty, Bend is a hot spot for summer activity. The Les Schwab Amphitheatre on the banks of the Deschutes River regularly hosts bands such as Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Coldplay and a host of fun “long ago” bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson and the like. The weekly “Munch N’ Music” is an all town “Lollapalooza” of music, food and gypsy booths that you won’t want to miss.
Bend is progressive, liberal and artsy. Along with the rest of the Northwest, it is the most non-religious area of the United States according to census data.
Come and see why Bend is not only an amazing place to live and visit, but also why it is a meaningful and life changing place to do ministry.
Purpose
The Negev Circuit at Antioch Church is an intern program that exists to facilitate an opportunity for students to journey through a season of focused spiritual community, practical ministry experience, structured biblical mentorship, and disciplined personal study to guide them in discovering God’s design for their life. The program will also ignite a passion in our interns to devote themselves to a life of ministry for God. We believe that interns are not in our program merely to serve, but to be served ase well. Built into each circuit is a mentorship program designed to pour into the students on a daily basis.
Our Summer Circuit is designed for students who desire a fast paced, focused internship. This circuit has, on a weekly basis, eight hours of mentorship and 24 to 32 hours of ministry. Your time will be split up into into office work, Sunday morning attendance and the requirements of the ministry focus determined by the intern.

WHAT SETS US APARRT?
Outdoor Trips
Interning in Bend for the summer is a grown up “summer camp” experience! The interns will get to go on a guided whitewater rafting trip, go rock climbing and do a group climb of South Sister (the third highest peak in the Oregon Cascade Range at
10,358 ft.)
You won’t believe the beauty and the amazing rivers; or check out www.smithrock.com to read about one of the most renowned climbing destinations in the world, which is located just 30 minutes outside of Bend.
Coming to Bend is worth it if not for the experience alone!
Progresive Context
Oregon is the least religious state in the country. Antioch is a missional church plant in a very progressive and edgy area of the country. Ministering in Bend will help you learn first-hand what it means to become a part of a church that speaks directly into an extremely secular culture.
Holistic Focus
Unlike a lot of programs where it is just about the work, Antioch desires to pour into interns relationally and spiritually. Interns are taken on solitude outings and work closely with the staff and pastors. Our goal is truly to give interns a taste of God’s calling in their lives so that they can “come back passionate about the future God has for them” – like Joshua and Caleb did when they returned from their Negev Circuit.
WHAT MINISTRY CAN I GET INVOLVED IN?
Pastoral
Teaching Focus
- Singles
- Church Planting
- College, mens & womens
Shepherding (mentoring focus)
To those who have been gifted with a pastoral heart, there are two separate areas in the pastoral program where your gifts can be tempered. There is a Teaching focus with a purpose of refining teaching skills. Teaching interns will be required to shadow a teaching pastor, aid the pastor in the research and collection of information for lessons, prepare several lessons of his/her own, and teach on a number of occasions. Teaching opportunities will be provided in support of ministry and community groups. The second focus area is in Discipleship with a lay counseling/mentoring focus where the intern gains experience in counseling/mentoring college students, singles, and through engagement with men’s and women’s ministries. The intern has a say in which area he/she wishes to pursue, but there will be exposure to each of these areas throughout their time in the program.
Media Ministry
Media Focus
- Graphics Design
- Video and photography
- Web Design
We realize that our culture communicates through visuals. Words get thrown around all day long, but the graphic arts have a profound advantage to communicate and intrigue our culture to live for God. You will be given the opportunity to shadow many talented artists, will be able to utilize our editing suite, and learn what it means to use the graphic arts as a ministry.
Mission Ministry/Compassion Ministry
Develop and support local and overseas ministries
Participate in strategy development
We have a plethora of mission opportunities that need your attention. You will get experience with local mission initiatives and various compassion ministries, as well as the opportunity to plug in with global missional ideas. Working alongside with ARMS ministries, the Uganda Project, and World Relief are just some of the many opportunities that will come your way.
Children’s Ministry
Fast-paced, high-energy and rewarding are just a few words that come to mind when describing Antioch Kids - our Children’s Ministry here at Antioch.
We are not seeking to simply provide childcare, but to take advantage of the hour we have with the children each week to impact them for eternity. Our vision is to equip and come along side parents and provide them with the tools and reinforcement they need to be the spiritual mentors and leaders for their own children.
You will have opportunities to learn and participate in all facets of this ministry. From the day to day office administration (lesson planning, prepping supplies, coordinating volunteers) all the way to leading large groups in worship and the Bible lesson on a Sunday morning. If you are committed and invest yourself whole-heartedly in this ministry you will not come away disappointed.
Youth Ministry
Groups
- G63
- Alpha
The Antioch middle school group, G63, and high school group, ALPHA, are rapidly growing and demanding more energy and attention daily. Come pour your life into the lives of the youth in Bend, Oregon and watch God use your story to change their lives.
College Career
College Career Ministry - 18-30
- Teaching
- Mentoring
- Administration
Our college students are a treasured facet of Antioch, bringing life, energy, and fresh ideas to our church. Because interns within Negev are of the same age-range as Realm attendees, interns wishing to pursue this path must portray maturity and poise in their ability to lead peers emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. Interns working in the Realm will be shadowing the leader of the group, preparing lessons, teaching, organizing events, and helping with the administrative end of the ministry.
Music Ministry
Music and Worship
- Sunday Morning Worship
- Mid-Week Singles
- Mid-Week High School
- Sunday Children’s program
At Antioch Church we value the Arts and the artists in our community. We are a progressive slightly edgy community of people committed to seeing Jesus change people in our community and beyond. We have a state of the art sound system and tech crew and we’re committed to quality in our worship services. Come be part of the movement and have an amazing summer adventure in beautiful Bend, Oregon refining your skills and developing your gifts! Worship Music Interns will be shadowing our worship leaders, assisting them in preparation and production each week and working directly with our worship pastor. Duties will include charting, some arranging, assistance with creating set lists and choosing new music, assistance with leading rehearsals, playing in our weekly worship bands and potentially doing some leading on Sunday mornings. There will be opportunities during the week to lead worship at several venues including our college/career group, high school, etc. This is an opportunity for music students to demonstrate their breadth of creativity in music, to work with skilled musicians in our community, and to grow as worship leaders. There will be opportunities for private studies with professional musicians if desired.
Recreation Ministry
Development & Implementation
Antioch is in the process of developing a one year Bible and outdoor leadership school for young adults seeking to deepen their relationship with the Lord, grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Bible, and gain experience and training in outdoor leadership and technical skills. The intern that chooses this opportunity should share a passion for the outdoors, as they will be helping a team of individuals develop curriculum, field trips, and other vital aspects of the school.
Discipleship Ministry
Jesus had two priorities. Love God and make disciples. He choose a handful of men who followed him, learned from him, and tried to be more like him as he sought after His Father. Discipleship is necessary, yet is not something that fits squarely into a box. You will get the opportunity to reinforce and continue to create a vibrant discipleship ministry.
If you are interested in participating in our summer internship program, please complete the intern application. One of the Antioch staff will follow up with a phone call.
