FamilyCamp |
A new tradition began in August for Antioch Church: Family Camp. Groups headed over throughout the day Friday to begin the weekend. We ate some amazing home cooking by our camp chef, Don Burke. Each night we had a family gathering where we were entertained by random games of people eating some interesting food combinations. We were instructed not to say the word "fun", else you receive the punishment of singing "I'm a Little Teapot" opera-style in front of everybody! Fred and Shaun Kent led us in some great worship, and we all sang our hearts out that "we just want to be sheep"! At each of the gatherings we also heard wonderful stories from the church staff that were encouraging, and honestly quite hilarious.
Of course, what would camp be without night games? All ages gathered in a field in the pitch black to enjoy some friendly - even stealthy - competition both Friday and Saturday night. Daytime Saturday brought many surprises and laughs. The single gals came upon a little cabin guest over the weekend. A chipmunk found a secret passage way into the cabin and spent the weekend hiding, scurrying around, and running from Brandon Groza and his mighty weapon (a broom). Everything from Frisbee golf, paintball, relay races and laying in the sun kept us busy. But nothing stopped us from gathering around the lake Saturday afternoon for the infamous blob contest.
It was a blast to see so many of our church members flying through the air!
Ask anybody who attended if you should go next year and you'll get the same response all around: join the tradition. The memories are priceless.
