On June 8, the Kilns Bookstore opened the doors for its first concert. Paul Wright and his band, Root Down, played from Wright’s newest album, “Wright or Wrong These Songs are Paul’s” and other tracks. Dominic Balli opened the show. At least 80 people got down to the reggae beat, turning the space into a giant dance floor. The audience also enjoyed barbecue fare and a wine bar.
Worship pastor Justin Lavik and Antioch member Beth Fischer organized the event. Fischer knew Wright from working at a radio station. Lavik said that he hopes the space will be used for many more concerts in the future. “I thought it was a great opportunity to hear good music at a lower cost in a great environment,” he said.
Currently, Kilns Bookstore staff and Lavik are considering a monthly concert series that will bring bands of varying genres to the venue for the entire Bend community to enjoy. Kilns Bookstore will offer the shows at low prices to anyone interested in coming. Lavik said, “I am excited to have a venue that we can use.”
The Kilns Bookstore is located near the Old Mill at 550 Industrial Way, Suite 44.
