MEET KYLE & WENDY BEALL

Where were you born?

Kyle: Portland, Oregon
Wendy: Chicago, IL

How did you two meet?

Kyle: Well, while at Portland State, I spent most of my mornings in the basement of Nuberger Hall. Many of those mornings, I saw Wendy unloading her bike helmet, and other outdoor gear into her school locker as she prepared to work with kids with language delays. I thought, "I need to meet that girl." Many months later I met her and asked her to come to a gig I was playing at some smoky Portland bar. The rest is history.
Wendy: Kyle was a TA that would pop by my little office (I shared it with another grad student) at Portland State. I thought, "Mmmmhmmmmm, who's that guy??!!" God used Kyle to find my heart and He blessed me with the best husband! (God is genius- He knew He could reach me with an intelligent, good- looking outdoorsman!!

What is it about Antioch that gets you most excited?

Kyle: All the great people.
Wendy: The energy and enthusiasm of the people.

What one new thing did you learn in the last week?

Kyle: Failing to cover my mouth when I sneeze can make a pregnant woman puke!
Wendy: How to do the J-stroke when paddling a canoe!

If you could give one piece of advice to pass on to the next generation, what would it be?

Kyle: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Wendy: Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? I'm still learning this lesson!

What was the last concert you attended? Who did you go with?

Kyle: We recently sat outside the Les Schwab ampitheater with all the other Bend cheapskates and listened to Alison Krauss.
Wendy: Alison Krauss-does that count? We LOVE bluegrass!

DAVID & AMIEE BAILLARGEON

Where were you born?

David: Berlin, New Hampshire
Aimee: Long Beach, California

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

David: The importance and integration of history & philosophy in teaching the Word on Sunday's as well as a fresh approach to church traditions like baby dedications and not owning a building.
Aimee: Being stretched and thinking outside the box. At the end of the day, amidst the amazing worship, breathtaking art and intriguing history series, it's all about Jesus. This is why we meet, this is who we're desperate for and it is His powerful Word that Ken brings forth on His behalf that will forever change us as a body so we can make an impact for Jesus in our community Monday thru Saturday.

How did you two meet?

David: In Jackson Hole on a fly fishing outing, she was dating one of my best friends (who ended up being a groomsmen in our wedding!)
Aimee:I was on a fly-fishing date with his roommate and Dave tagged along (weird, huh?). Well, not too weird..once I saw Dave, his roommate was history!

What's one of your hobbies?

David: Mountain biking
Aimee: Triathlons (although I've hung up my wetsuit for the past 1 1/2 years due to a car accident..things are looking hopeful for this summer!)

How competitive are you? Explain?

David: I used to be competitive in sports like basketball and bike racing, but now I just enjoy these activities and stop and smell the roses. I'm too old to get worked up about it!
Aimee: I'm most competitive with myself. I love winning, but I adore obtaining goals, which sometimes reaps the benefit of beating the sox off of someone else!

What dreams have come true for you?

David: Being blessed with an unbelievable wife and amazing kids!
Aimee: To be married to a man who loves Jesus, adores his family and walks with integrity & honesty is perhaps the greatest gift for me as a woman. The fact that he is the hottest guy I know also helps!

What do you think about more than anything else?

David: When all the dust and smoke settles from the daily grind of work, life & trials, I am thankful for Him and being His child, and being blessed in so many areas of my life.
Aimee: In response to this question, I don't want my answer of 'Jesus' to sound super-spiritual, but, it is because of Him that I can even get up in the morning. It is His massive input in my life (the way I love my husband, train up my children and serve others) that I base all of my decisions on. And, it is Him that goes before me and is behind me and hems me in, so I tend to think of Him all day long as I'm a huge hack-job and need lots of assistance. Aside from Jesus, I'd have to say chocolate. Or Dave. Or Dave holding chocolate!

MEET GARY & COURTNEY CHRISTENSON

Where were you born?

Gary: I was born at a young age in the remote town of Grand Coulee, located in the state of Washington.
Courtney: I was privileged enough to be born and raised in "America's Finest City" (ie San Diego) and loved almost every minute of it (excepting those minutes spent stuck in traffic)

How did you two meet?

Gary: I was a king crab fisherman in the burly waters of Alaska. I was tossed overboard during a deadly storm and just so happen to grab onto a surfboard that was drifting by. I managed to catch a huge north swell (which I shredded by the way) that landed me on the beach of a small Polynesian Island. There I met a young hula dancer named Koukanakuhuluhumu. I secretly married her and renamed her Courtney (which means "The Leaping Lavender" in her language). The next day we escaped by means of a hand carved canoe that we made from a large rainbow eucalyptus tree. We paddled to the Oregon Coast and here we are.
Courtney: Geez, I remember it happening very differently. From what I remember Gary and I were stuck on a small island called "Maui" working as interns at the same ridiculous church. We were forced to be friends because there are so few people on the island and well, a few surfing expeditions later we decided we should probably get married.

How would you describe the perfect day?

Gary: The day would start with a perfect Dawn Patrol surf session in 74 degree water. Then we'd go for toasted sesame seed bagels and Double- Tall-Soy-Carmel Machiatos. Then I'd sit on the porch of my small log home overlooking a mountain meadow surrounded by pine trees with my guitar in one hand and my shotgun in the other. I'd play some guitar, shoot some waterfowl, and eat enchiladas for lunch. I'd spend the afternoon rallying on some dirt bikes and wakeboarding on a glassy mountain lake. I'd fish for salmon until sunset, and then grill the salmon for dinner while drinking home brews. We would spend the rest of the evening telling stories around a smoking hot camp fire on the beach.
Courtney: My perfect day would also start with a surf session, but probably not dawn patrol. Probably it would be around 9:00, but the water would still be glassy and the waves would still be perfect. Then we'd drink coffee and eat breakfast on the beach a bunch of great friends. The afternoon would be spent reading an amazing piece of classic literature and drinking more coffee, probably still on the beach with a late afternoon boat ride and whale-watching expedition. Evening would be a dinner party with friends, good music and wine.

What's the best advice you've ever been given?

Gary: To get married!
Courtney: To elope. We didn't, but only because I couldn't talk Gary into it.

If you could capture any event in history on videotape, which one event would it be?

Gary: I'd document the first guy ever to get stung by a bee- I bet he was freaking out!
Courtney: Creation- I think it would be amazing to see the whole world be made in 7 days. Imagine what that would look like in that "time-warp" video thing where they speed stuff up really fast!

MEET ANDREA DUNKER

Where were you born?

Corvallis, OR (Go Beavs!)

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

I am so excited for the community that the church has and I look forward to serving here as well.

What is your favorite poem or saying? Why is it your favorite?

"No wind serves him who addresses his voyage to no certain port." - Montaigne

It is my favorite because it reminds me to ask the important questions, "What am I doing, what am I living for? Is my life producing the fruits of the spirit?"

What's the most dangerous situation you've encountered?

I would have to say it had a great deal to do with heights and why I am so scared of them to this day. I was on a mission trip in Bolivia, travelling from La Paz (the world's highest Capitol) into the jungle - an approximately 9,000 foot drop in altitude - on a one lane dirt road on the side of the mountain. At one point all of us in the vehicle had to pile out of the trooper and stand back because a huge banana truck was passing us, and if he had clipped our bumper, we would have fallen to our most certain death off of a cliff that was a few miles high. Good memories!

If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?

I would fly to Spain or Italy and enjoy some time there. If I'm invisible, does the food around me turn invisible too? Because I would definitely want to enjoy some goods while I'm there!

Which movies have you watched over and over again?

So I Married an Axe Murderer, Just Like Heaven, Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and many others.

If you could change one thing about the culture you live in, what would it be?

The fact that America doesn't know how to take a vacation and live life instead of life living them.

Where were you born?

Kip: I was born in Redmond, Washington.
Kristin:
Sacramento, CA

How did you two meet?

Kip: I was minding my own business when Kristin came up to me and asked me out..being asked out by girls is nothing new..but I thought there was something different about her so I said "okay!"
Kristin: Basically, Kip stalked me!! I went to Antioch's college group New Year's Eve Party, not knowing a single soul, and Kip turned on what he labels "his charm", but really he just followed me around all night long. And then after overhearing a conversation I had about going to Starbucks the next morning, Kip showed up there to try to find me. But lucky for Kip, he won me over on our first two dates with some of my favorite things: food, coffee, miniature golf, and a walk through Drake Park. So I decided to give the poor desperate guy a chance and here we are, a year later, married! But in all seriousness, the Lord truly had His hand over every step that brought us together. Kip is a wonderful guy (his charm really did work on me, but don't give him the satisfaction) and I am a very lucky girl!

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

Kip: My favorite restaurant outside of Bend is P.F. Changs, I go there about 6 times a year..but here in Bend my favorite restaurant is El Caporal (downtown), I go there once a week on average.

What's one thing you would rather pay someone to do than do yourself? Why?

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited for?

Conor: Antioch is a community where I can comfortably be a follower of Christ without feeling like I have to be a cliché “Christian.”
Michele: Community, commitment between friends and family with God in the center.

When was the last time you played hooky?

Conor: This afternoon
Michele: In college - only once though

What are the top three qualities that first draw you to someone new?

Conor: 1. Their sense of humor. 2. Their goals. 3. Their humility.
Michele: 1. People willing to be themselves. 2. People who are passionate about something (whether it be God, their Job, or Lord of the Rings). 3. People who are laid back.

What was your most romantic date?

Michele: When Conor asked me to marry him in his 1982 VW Vanagon. I’m pretty sure I was wearing a tie- dye dress (and no this was not in the 60’s)

If you could turn into any animal at will, which one would you select? Why?

Conor: An Ewok because they’re cute and cuddly and they ride those sweet scooters through the forest.
Michele: A cat. Because I’ve always wanted to be able to sleep all day and not feel guilty about it.

Where were you born?

J.C.: Nebraska - Go Big Red
Jill: Eugene

How did you two meet?

J.C.: Destiny!
Jill: I was the preschool teacher for J.C.'s daughter.

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

J.C.: People that are serious about giving excellent sacrifices back to their Creator. People that bring their "A" game to bear on their spiritual life, it's a refreshing thing to see all the excitement around the church.
Jill: All the new connections that not only J.C. and I are making, but that our kids are making that help us grow spiritually as well as making great friendships.

Besides your spouse, who has had a big impact on you life?

J.C.: My dad.
Jill: Hands down my children. Not a day goes by that I don't sit back in amazement at how much they've taught and continue to teach me.

What spells adventure for both of you?

J.C.: Tuk-Tuk rides through downtown Bangkok in the middle of rush hour traffic.
Jill: Anything with our 3 amigos. Grocery shopping is sometimes an adventure. We love taking the kids on big hikes but we like out own "big people" adventures and can't wait to travel the world.

If you won a million dollars right now, what would you do with it?

J.C.: Municipal bonds.
Jill: I would probably put enough away for our kids and then there are at least 100 organizations that I would love to support from ending hunger to treating AIDS, you name it. And buy a Starbucks machine :)

MEET MIKE AND JAIME PARKER

Where were you born?

Mike:Brunswick, Maine (in the exact same hospital as Ken Wytsma!)
Jaime: Kentucky

How did you two meet?

Mike:Well, we met in the 9th grade in Germany. I was standing with a group of guys and saw her with her group of friends and walked across the courtyard and asked her to the 9th grade prom. I took her hand and put it on my heart and asked her if she could feel my heart beating, cause I was so nervous! She was better than foxy, she was the mink!
Jaime: In Germany, at school. We were 15 yrs. old. He was the class clown (imagine that!), and I was the "New Girl" from California - with a tan!!

What is it about Antioch you are most excited about?

Mike:The message and the fashion in which the gospel is given. I love being a student, cause I certainly couldn't teach it!
Jaime: Ken's messages! It had been so long since I had heard a pastor speak so clearly and intelligently on the subject of Christ. I have never felt so moved to move in a positive way for others. To reach outside of myself!

What's the best advice you've ever been given?

Mike:I had dinner with Jack Nicholas and I asked him what the key to his sucess was and he said "the ability to stay focused." I thought that was pretty cool.
Jaime: Don't count your chicken's before they've hatched! I live excited about life and I have the tendency to be in the moment, "before the moment" actually appears. It can be scary since I am also married to a man just like me!

What's one guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?

Mike:I like RPG computer games! I like the ones with Knights storming the castle!
Jaime: Buying and reading home decor magazines and anything on architecture. I spend far too much time examining table legs and the swag of an armchair - it's ridicules!

If you could own a restaurant, what kind would it be?

Mike:Baldy's BBQ!! Has that already been done?? I would do it the exact same way only it would be named Hairy's BBQ!!
Jaime: Ahhh - all organic, terrific sandwiches, salads, soups - also an awesome breakfast house on the Eastside! We need it!!

RanstadtMEET AARON PRATT

Where were you born?

I was born and raised a poor farm boy, forced to work for my evil step-father and hideous step-brothers, oh wait that is a completely different story. Part of that was true though, I was born in the farming community of Cedarville, California, grew up on a ranch, with cows and horses and pigs, oh my. People never believe me when I tell them that. If you are not sure where Cedarville is located, it is 50 miles west of the exact middle of nowhere, or the northeastern corner of California, which ever is easier for you to find.

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

How the church continues to amaze me, I continually talk about Antioch and what everyone brings to the church: talent, compassion, love, oh and the fact that I can tell people that I know Kip Jones personally, really makes me excited to be a part of Antioch. Antioch is unlike any church I have ever been a part of. It offers people a place to really call their church home and that is proven all the time with the fellowship that takes place on Sunday and throughout the week. Another thing that I really appreciate is how the church uses the commandment of "love thy neighbor," Antioch not only looks and thinks globally, but also locally with its involvement and outreach. I am also excited to see where we go with the school, the missions, and this newest opportunity with World Relief.

What books have made a big impact on you?

I usually read for pleasure, and most of the time the books aren't really that deep. Interestingly enough though, the book "Salty Piece of Land" by Jimmy Buffet was great and made me really think about chucking it all and going to live in the Caribbean on a boat. Also, "You" by Ed Young is a book I use principles from in life. I am currently reading "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch, and so far it is a great read, lots of little lessons to be learned and applied in life.

If you were to star in a movie, what would be your ideal role?

Probably the Alfred to Bruce Wayne or the "Q" to Bond, not really the spotlight, but the guy you have to keep your eye on while you watch the movie because he will probably do something amazing at some point that will make the hero's job easier.

What's your dream job?

I am not sure about that, I really love to cook so I am inclined to say a chef. Mostly anything where I get to be around people and help them make decisions that can improve their life in some way. A job where I would get paid to rate travel destinations would be cool though.

Where's your perfect dream vacation spot?

I very much dislike the cold weather so anywhere that has the potential to be cold is out. I go for hot and sunny, where a slight tropical breeze blows across me while I lounge in my hammock that is tied between two palm trees.

What real person, dead or alive, do you wish you could be more like? Why?

This is a hard question for me to answer. I have had amazing opportunities to learn from and know some great people in my life. I like to take a lesson learned from someone whenever I can. I really don't wish that I was anyone else but me, only that I am able to interact with the right people that can help me to be the best person I can be. I have a few heroes and I am sure I will have more as I grow older. One of those heroes is Mike Mitchell, I enjoy every conversation that I am able have with him and I hope that I am, one day, able to be half the man of God he is. He is one person I look up to as a mentor and friend. Thank you Mike for how you have helped me grow, whether you know it or not.

What is your favorite movie? ?

Braveheart

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited for?

I am excited to see people seek and find God in a way that is real and experienced. What are your hobbies?

Playing whatever instrument I can get my hands on, Hiking (especially at night), Caving, snowboarding, hunting, making food with/for a bunch of people, wheelin' in a 4x4, working on cars, and reading history, biblical theology, & ministry philosophy.

MEET MARK & DEBI STANGELAND

Where were you born?

Debi: Arcadia, CA
Mark: Santa Clara, CA

How did you two meet?

Debi: We met in 1973 when our parents became friends at a church here in Bend. Mark's younger sister Karin and I became best friends and we remained friends even when my family moved away to California in the 80's. Mark and I didn't see each other for about 20 years. When his dad became ill with cancer in 2000 Karin called me to come to Bend to see her dad. At that point Mark and I reconnected - He thought I grew up pretty good - started dating and were married a year later.
Mark: If my father would not have passed away when he did, I would never have been re-acquainted with and married Debi and have two wonderful kid's. God's plans are not always easy to understand but he was in control of this one. I will see my Dad again someday. It was his last gift to me, and the best!!

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

Mark: I like a place where I can go for the truth. I feel very comfortable there. I feel it is a place where everyone's gifts and talents can be utilized to the greater good of the Kingdom. I like the direction I see the church heading. I think the vision for Antioch is a very modern and inclusive approach to reach believers in this day and age. I see it as a place I could take anyone and they would see and hear the truth.
Debi: Thinking outside the box and being totally comfortable inviting anyone I meet anywhere in town to come visit our church. There's no pretense at Antioch and that takes all the fear out of it for me when talking to someone who's searching. I can be a bold Christ follower because I have this great support system behind me that is Spirit driven and inspired. That's so cool!

What are some of your hobbies?

Mark: Raising my kid's, is that a hobby or a job? Fly- fishing, skiing, all outdoor related things, collecting and listening to all kinds of live music
Debi: Fly fishing, biking, scrap booking, watching movies, skiing, fly fishing, canoeing, do-it-yourself projects around the house, interior design, fly fishing, did I mention fly fishing?

What lesson did you have to learn the hard way?

Mark: I can't do everything on my own. My way and God's way are different. My way didn't work out so well. God's way works perfectly if we just let him drive. As we let God control our lives more and more every day, the true scope of His plan becomes clear, and what a plan it is!!! I am excited to see what God has in store for Debi and I in the future, as we grow and trust him more and more.
Debi: One of my jobs is to put together the giant movie displays in the lobby of the theater. When I first started I thought I could put one together without using the directions. Ha, talk about a hard lesson learned. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to get a giant cardboard cutout of Jessica Simpson and a shopping cart to fit together correctly when you haven't read the directions of how to fit tab A into slot B. It's a good metaphor for life. The Bible has all the instructions right there for us to follow. God has the perfect plan and if we think we can do it on our own we always end up in some crazy predicament that could have been avoided if we'd just read the directions. So the next time you think you can do it on your own just picture Jessica Simpson upside down in a shopping cart and that should be enough to send you straight to your Bible.

Where's your favorite place to be?

Mark: Waist deep powder on a sunny day, or waist deep fishing in one of my favorite rivers (Deschutes, North Umpqua, or the Dean river in central BC) Also, it's pretty cool to come home after work and see my little girl and boy and just hang out and roll around with them on the floor.
Debi: Standing in the middle of the N. Umpqua with a fly rod in my hand twitchin' a skater across the water on a hot summer day or watching my kids as they discover the world around them.

MEET LINDSEY & MARY TAFT

Where were you born?

Mary: Portland, Oregon
Lindsey: Anchorage, Alaska

How did you two meet?

Mary: Blind date-see it really does work sometimes
Lindsey: We met on a blind date. It was arranged by my best friend at the time during summer break from college and before we met he said that this was the girl I would end up marrying and that's exactly what happened even though she thought I was a geek!

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

Mary: I love the way it feels that God called me to Antioch personally. I love that Antioch is Christ- centered. It's exciting to see SO many people in one church who truly demonstrate Christ in our body, in our community, and throughout the world!
Lindsey: The people and passion for God. It's refreshing to see a church that is authentic and truly wants to live out God's plan through their actions vs. their words. I feel God has given Antioch so many opportunities through various channels of outreach, ministries, people, organizations, etc and I can't wait to see how it all plays out!

What are some of your favorite foods?

Mary: The cravings vary dramatically throughout all food groups but fish never makes the list.
Lindsey: Steak, pizza, ice cream and Mary's homemade snickerdoodles!

If you could spend one day doing absolutely anything, what would you do?

Mary: Any day is a great day when I'm with my family and good friends!
Lindsey: a day with my wife and kids golfing at Augusta National (Home of The Masters Tournament), skiing in Whistler, eating filet mignon and Alaskan king crab on a yacht in the Florida Keys with a bottle of Silver Oak and having Swiss chocolate fondue in Zermatt, Switzerland at a Jimmy Buffett/Barry Manilow concert! Hey..you asked.

What is beauty?

Mary: Ah..in the eye of the beholder!! I just feel like it's in the "moments" of life. When I see my husband lovingly "glance my way", seeing our new baby for the first time, watching our kids adoring each other, watching someone doing a good deed when they think no one is watching, a genuine smile filled with love and joy. These things give me a slight glimpse of what Heaven will be like.
Lindsey: - Beauty is seeing God come alive in the hearts and minds of family and friends.

watsonMEET ESTHER WATSON

How old are you?

Old enough to remember the first Care Bears and Cabbage Patch Kids craze. Scary. But really, I'm 29.

Where would you want to go on vacation if you could?

It is a toss up really. Grand Cayman for scuba diving or China. Some day I'll fly into Hong Kong go to Bejing, see the Great wall and then take a cruise down the Yangtze river back to Hong Kong. And then again, there's always Austrailia or New Zealand. So many options, so little time!

What is your favorite movie?

Normally? Red Planet or Tears of the Sun. Right now I have a severe desire to watch Shane.

Where did you grow up?

I spent the first 14 years of my life in Wheaton, IL. Then one day, I said to my parents, "Let's go somewhere we've never been for vacation." So I naively planned a trip to Oregon. Should have known something was up when we kept coming back to Bend during the trip. They bought a 40 acre ranch. We moved. The rest is history.

What are you most excited about with Antioch Church?

At the moment it is Doxa! I am excited to meet people in a similar stage of life looking to live out their convictions.

What are your hobbies?

While I could claim that I like to ski, climb, scuba, make jewelry or build dollhouses my main hobby right now is eating. Yes, that's right, eating, preferably with friends at some cozy establishment that serves up bold flavors and a good steak.

MEET JIM & SHARON WILKENS

Where were you born?

Jim: Scott City, KS
Sharon: Colorado Springs, CO

How did you two meet?

Jim: While attending Westmont College. Sharon must have copied my answer on this one or else she just “coincidentally” has the same story.
Sharon: Jim was a friend of my roommate at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. On moving-in day, he appeared at the door of our room hefting my roommate’s rug over his shoulder. I was smitten. :)

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited for?

Jim: To see and share the excitement, enthusiasm, and growth of the new Christians that Antioch will attract.
Sharon: I an excited to have leaders with analytical minds, honesty, and a passion to know God. I am also excited to experience closeness within the Antioch “family” – sharing the desire to love God and walk with Him.

What book has made a big impact on you?

Jim: I can’t think of a single book that has made a bigger-than-other-books impact on me. Some that I return to are: Shadow of the Almighty – the life story of Jim Elliot & Isobel Kuhn’s books.
Sharon: Amy Carmichael’s devotional and biographical books have been an almost daily inspiration to me since I was in college. Reading Les Miserables, the long, unabridged 3-volume original, in my late teens sparked a passion for the classics that has never stopped.

What is your favorite season of the year? Why?

Jim: Summer and fall – the weather lends itself to outdoor activities.
Sharon: Fall, definitely fall! I love the colors, the smell, the feel of the air, piles of fallen leaves on the sidewalks, the golden hue to the sunlight. Fall is invigorating and nostalgic.

To what extent do other’s beliefs influence you?

Jim: That depends on the person, the belief, & the premise or support for the belief.
Sharon: Not exactly sure how to answer this one. I love to be around people with new ideas and beliefs – they make me think. But I’m not often much influenced in the sense of changing my foundational beliefs. I like to approach ideas with an open mind, but I also have a streak of the skeptic that wants a lot of convincing.

What spells adventure for you?

Jim: Hiking and more recently, paragliding.
Sharon: Anything that pushes into the unknown. Taking long hikes to very high places, trying to wrap my mind around “big” concepts, exploring new countries. Nothing dark, deep, or confined!

MEET SCOTT & KAREN WILLIAMS

Where were you born?

Scott: Oxnard, CA
Karen: Hollywood, CA

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited about?

Scott: The variety of people and the vision that God has given Ken for the direction of the church.
Karen: Getting involved in small groups and the art aspect: that art is seen as a form of worship excites me.

How did you two meet?

Scott: Karen's roommate took her to a bible study on Valentines day. After the study the singles group went out for desert, we end up sitting at the same table, but it wasn't love at first sight. We got into a heated debate over public vs. private schools! Who knew we would end up falling in love!
Karen: What he said...

Are you a traveler or a homebody? Explain?

Scott & Karen: We are both! We love to travel and explore. Before we had kids we did a lot of it! We still enjoy it. We also love to sit on our porch, with a good book and a great cup of coffee! It really depends on our mood.

Whom do you most admire? Why?

Scott: Saint Francis of Assisi, because of his passion to know Christ and to hear Him. Also because he did what he felt God called him to, no matter what the cost, and in so doing he turned thirteenth-century Europe upside down!
Karen: martyrs; Because of the great faith they have to stand up for Jesus. I love reading the stories; it helps to strengthen my faith. People don't die for senseless reasons...when I read their stories I just know that Jesus is the way!

What are the best and worst sounds in the world?

Scott & Karen: We both agree that the best sound is our kids laughing and getting along with each other. The worst sound is the two of them fighting!

Where's your favorite place to be?

Scott: On a wooded, single track, staring at Karen's behind, as she rides her mountain bike.
Karen: On the same wooded, single track as Scott, cranking hard on my mountain bike so he can eat my dust!!!!

MEET KEN & LAURA WONG

Where were you born?

Ken: Aurora, Colorado
Laura: Santa Paula, California

How did you two meet?

Ken: At the Basemar Cinema’s. I was the assistant manager and Laura was new to town and was looking for a better job. I just happened to be there when she turned in her application several times.

At what time of day to you feel at your best?

Ken: 11:30 P.M. is when I am at the height of my awareness. 95 % of people are on these day tracks, we avoid them at all costs.
Laura: I agree. I can be dragging all day but around 11 pm I become sharp as needles. You know night is so peaceful, day is so chaotic.

What is it about Antioch that you are most excited for?

Ken: I currently work at the Old Mill Regal 16 Cinema. I am excited about experiencing God in the place where I work. Going to the theatre will take on a whole new meaning for me. I feel like it will enable me to show my co-workers who I really am. There is a small handful of Christians at the theatre. We are not in unity about being Christians in the workplace. We need to hold each other up and be accountable. I think the church will help with that.
Laura: It is so exciting the way God brought us up here and how he made it so clear that we were to be part of Antioch. I am eager to see what God will show us next. No seriously, I’m like really excited about Antioch!

What’s your all-time favorite movie?

Ken: I don’t have an all-time favorite movie, I have categories. Science Fiction: The original Star Wars Trilogy, Action: The Crow, Comedy: Father of the Bride: I relate to this movie because if I was ever to become a father this is exactly how I would act.
Laura: I have categories as well. The original Star Wars is my favorite SF movie as well. We had a Star Wars wedding you know. The invitations, the cake had Han and Leah on the top, and we played the theme song from the movie when we walked down the aisle. It was great! As for the other categories, Action: Equilibrium, and Comedy: Princess Bride.

What was the best or worst job you have ever had?

Ken: The best job I ever had was at the Boulder Medical Center. I was a medical records file clerk. The worst job I ever had was as a midnight stocker at Target. It wasn’t the job so much as the people.
Laura: The best job I ever had was at the Boulder Medical Center as well. We worked together on the night crew. We got to wear roller blades around the building to deliver the records. No one was there so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The worst job I ever had was as a dishwasher at the Last American Diner.
