I’m an Avian Ecologist (bird guy). By God’s grace, my passion for owls and other birds of prey has enabled me to travel to much of North and South America and the Caribbean conducting or presenting my research. But I’m even more excited about the overwhelming evidence God is graciously providing our skeptical generation for His existence and the way Christianity uniquely makes sense of the world.
What I like most about Antioch Church: Besides the great people, I appreciate most Antioch’s commitment to Truth and Beauty (loving the Lord with heart, mind, soul, and strength)—as evidenced by ministries in Apologetics and Art.
Family Stats: Most happily married to Dawn since September 1989; two sons, Nathan (born April 1991) and Jasper (October 1993); two daughters, Aurora (March 1997) and Willow (May 1998). Dawn’s mom, Barbara McAnnis, lives with us as well. We also have an extensive menagerie of birds, reptiles, fish, and a dog (Mia).
Education: BA in Zoology, MS in Raptor Biology, MA in Christian Apologetics (in process).
Favorite Food: Greek.
Favorite Fiction Books: The Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. Tolkien), The Lord Peter Wimsey Series (Dorothy Sayers), and The Golf Omnibus (P.G Wodehouse).
Hobbies: Birdwatching, reptile hunting, insect collecting, gardening, soccer.
What is Apologetics? Apologetics is the reasoned formulation and winsome presentation of a rational defense of the Christian world- and life-view. Scriptures that call us to apologetics include II Corinthians 10:5, II Timothy 2:24-26, I Peter 3:15, and Jude 3. At Antioch, we reject fideism (faith divorced from reason and evidence); rather, we seek an intellectually sound and well reasoned belief in God, Jesus and the Christian Scriptures
